What is the difference between curly and coily hair?

Curly and coily hair have similar textures but differ in some aspects:

Curly hair: width & flexibility

When curly hair is wet, it can stretch almost to straight. It’s only once dry that it regains its curls. Unlike coily hair, curly hair is generally more flexible.

Regarding care, curly hair is usually drier, so don’t hesitate to hydrate it with an appropriate product like the Total Results from Matrix if you want to maintain that flexibility.

Coily hair: volume & bounce

Coily hair appears as tiny springs that wrap around themselves. Due to their complex shape, sebum travels less easily to the ends, which tends to make this hair type drier.

Coily hair also needs hydration but especially nutrition to maintain flexibility and strength. This is exactly what we offer with our Curl Crème for Curls.

How to get curly hair?

Do you find your hair too straight? Need a change? Know that nowadays, there are several effective techniques to add volume to your hair. However, if your hair type is between 1A, 1B, and 1C, it can sometimes be more challenging.

  • Curling iron: Apply to completely dry hair. The high temperature can easily damage your hair, so it's necessary to use a setting spray after use to help your hair maintain its health and keep curls longer.

  • Curlers: It’s an old technique, but it has definitely proven its worth! To do this, simply wrap damp hair section by section around the curlers. Once the entire head is secured, dry your hair with a blow dryer. The heat will shape your curls, guaranteed result!
